MY STORY

Hi, my name is Rachelle Riddle, and I am your candidate for State Representative in the 71st district. Rockcastle County is my home and because I love my home, I fight to make it better. I studied art studio with an emphasis in painting at the University of Kentucky following graduation from Rockcastle County High School in 2002. I moved back home in 2007 and worked as a pharmacy tech for 6 years. After my son was born, I decided to pursue art as a career. I completed my tattooing certification at the Tattoo Learning Center in Albany, New York in 2011 and opened my own art studio in 2013.

I have been a small business owner in Rockcastle County for over 10 years. My career as an independent artist provides me with the freedom to be a present parent for my son and allows my involvement in community activism. I returned to college in 2022 inspired by my involvement in local activism. I graduated on the President's List with a BA in Political Science from EKU in 2023. In my spare time I enjoy going to concerts and movies with friends, watching my son play sports, and spending time with family and friends.

I am committed to serving my community. I have volunteered the past 3 years live-streaming the city of Mt. Vernon’s Council meetings. I believe in transparency and accountability in government. I am familiar with the concerns of the people in the 71st and believe in the power of common sense bipartisanship. I have served as an election officer for over 15 years, led the successful campaign for alcohol sales, continue to advocate for clean water and updated sewage, and volunteer regularly in our local schools. I believe the 71st deserves a representative who is dedicated to the legitimate concerns of the people and will get the job done with real policy solutions. I don't want our children to have to leave our community to be successful. I have a teenage son, making our district better for him, and everyone else, has always been my priority. I hope to earn your trust and support in the coming months.

MY EXPERIENCE

As someone who was born and raised in Rockcastle County, I am dedicated to building a better Rockcastle and District 71, including parts of surrounding communities Berea, London, and Somerset. I chose to raise my child in my hometown, to open my business here, and to be active in the community; this place is home and I believe it deserves better leadership. I am willing and able to do the hard work to make the 71st better!

I co-founded the Rockcastle Diversity Club and Rockcastle Mothers of Minority Students, I know the pressures of raising kids and wanting a better future for them. I understand everyone has their own unique perspectives and struggles and I believe that each person deserves to be heard, considered, and treated with dignity.

As a citizen, community activist, and business owner, I am too familiar with the frustrations of not having access to clean water and the issues involved with a severely outdated sewage system crippling our capacity for growth. I understand the importance of local government, maintenance, and prioritizing the needs of the community. As an activist, my word is my power, and as the head of my household, I know how to pay the bills on time!

My job as an business owner and artist provide me with the ability to be a present parent and active citizen. Activism inspired me to return to college to obtain my BA in political science. My goal was to more effectively advocate for the needs I observed in my community. I am a lifelong learner. And as a former athlete and coach, I am a fierce competitor and want our community to win! I am capable of recognizing the needs of our citizens, raising awareness, and I am proven in my capabilities in pushing for progress through Rockcastle County's alcohol vote and advocating for medical cannabis to be on the ballot in 2024.

As someone who has served as an election officer for over 15 years, I value a transparent and accountable government provided by active citizenship. I know the principles of successful activism and my creative thinking is an excellent resource for policy reform. My EKU professor commented on my campaign announcement, "Rachelle is a super impressive person, and I have no doubt she will be a principled and forward-thinking state representative."

I live and breathe public servitude. I am a fighter for the people and I hope to earn your vote to build a better 71st District as your Representative in Frankfort.
